Biceps Tenodesis

What is it?

Biceps tenodesis (also known as a SLAP tear) is a procedure for the treatment of partial or full biceps tendon tears, severe biceps tendonopathy, or biceps instability associated with rotator cuff tears.

What to Expect

Before Procedure

You should not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before the procedure. After Procedure You will usually not be in the hospital for more than one day after surgery and some people may even be discharged to go home later that night. Your arm will be in a shoulder sling for about three weeks after surgery.

You can expect to be off work for a minimum of three weeks post-op for minor tears and this can increase to as long as 6 months if work involves heavy duties. Physical therapy will be done for a few months in order to regain range of motion and strength.

Discharge Instructions

Your surgeon will meet with you and provide exercises and give further advice to guide you through recovery.
